Description
One of Shakespeare's most popular plays, this 1983 production of The Taming of the Shrew examines the comedy of courtship of two sisters and their suitors. Katharina (Karen Austin), the eldest daughter, is very beautiful but so sharp-tongued that no man shows any interest. Bianca (Kathryn Johnson) is sought by many men but cannot marry until the elder Katharina is wed. A swaggering young adventurer, Petruchio (Franklyn Seales) appears seeking a wife and is smitten with Katharina. The stormy courtship of Katharina and Petruchio unfolds as a battle of wits, wills, and words.

This series of Shakespearean productions has been specially staged as the plays might have appeared in the 16th century. Unfamiliar English accents, so prevalent in most Shakespearean productions, are absent from this series, helping to achieve a clarity of language and story while preserving the playwright's original language.
