The 19th-century Spanish composer Carlos García Tolsa was a skilled improviser on guitar who rarely transcribed his songs; this volume represents all of his works for guitar that have survived. García Tolsa's fondness for dance music is reflected in the inclusion of mazurkas, polkas, and habaneras, but a nocturne and a sonata appear as well. This facsimile of the original edition includes period illustrations, and a partial arrangement of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 for 10-string guitar, written in García Tolsa's own hand.
