The Brazilian musical world of the last half of the 19th century and first years of the 20th century was clearly inspired by a love of dancing. These 12 selections for guitar have been adapted from orchestral renditions of such quintessentially Brazilian dances as the lundu, polca, maxixe, valsinha, quadrilha, choro, and the samba. The composers represented are Francesco Manuel de Silva, Chiquinha Gonzaga, Joaquim Callado, Patápio Silva, and Anacleto de Medeiros. All of the compositions appear here in standard notation and tablature.
