This three-disc collection contains the final 19 episodes of the Emmy-nominated Season Two, which aired betweeen February and July of 1957. Included is "Bloody Hands," in which Matt, after killing three bank robbers in self-defense, decides he's seen enough blood shed and turns in his badge. Circumstantial evidence points to Chester when a man with whom he'd been arguing is murdered in "Chester's Murder." Sebastian Cabot guest stars in "The Photographer" as an Eastern journalist who is accused of staging a murder so he can capture "the violence of the West." Also included are seven original sponsor spots starring the members of the cast. First presented as a radio program, Gunsmoke debuted on TV in 1955 and became the longest-running prime time live-action drama in television history (20 seasons, 635 episodes). It was the number-one ranked show on TV from 1957 to 1961 and won five Emmy Awards, including Best Dramatic Series. The show starred James Arness as Matt Dillon, marshall of one of the roughest towns in the West: Dodge City, Kansas. Helping him keep the peace are the kindly Doc Adams (Milburn Stone), saloonkeeper Kitty Russell (Amanda Blake), and deputy Chester B. Goode (Dennis Weaver). Ken Curtis joined the show in 1959 as the cantankerous deputy Festus Hagen.
