Description
A reviewer once described the dark and richly dramatic voice of Danish contralto Elisabeth Hanke as "singing for all our senses." Hanke has been heard as Erde in Wagner's Das Rheingold ("Weiche, Wotan, Weiche") as well as in many other operas. In addition to the Seguidille and Habanera from Carmen, she performs Schmerzen ("Sonne, weinest jeden Abend...") from Wagner's Wesendonk Lieder. Orchestral excerpts include the Siegfried Idyll and the Act 1 Prelude to Carmen.
"Elisabeth's voice is beautiful, and her range of emotions and way of expressing them through the composer's music left me with the rare experience of having heard something of great importance."—New York
