This Danish duo goes by the name of "Musica Mirabilis," and both their playing and the music performed on this disc is well worthy of that soubriquet. "His style owed much to Chopin, his form had something of Scriabin, but there was already the stamp of a powerful, original personality to be felt in the line of his melody and in his daring and original modulations." Thus wrote pianist Arthur Rubinstein on discovering the great Polish Romantic Karol Szymanowski, whose highly colored piano writing is heard here in The Fountain of Arethusa, Narcissus, and Dryads and Pan.
