Blending the classic ballad and blues artistry of Williams and the eternal swing of the world's most celebrated big band, Joe Williams with the Count Basie Orchestra was recorded live at Detroit's Orchestra Hall in 1992. The chemistry is palpable on favorites like "Honeysuckle Rose," "One O'Clock Jump," and "I'd Rather Drink Muddy Water." On Here's to Life, Williams performs 12 beautiful love ballads ("When I Fall In Love," "I Didn't Know About You," "If I Had You"), arranged by the great Robert Farnon. Presenting yet another side of his musical talents is Feel the Spirit. With these 13 African-American spirituals, Williams pays homage to his Chicago roots and to the gospel quartet that was his primary musical influence. Settings of traditional songs like "Go Down Moses / Wade in the Water," "Little David," and "I Couldn't Hear Nobody Pray" range from duos with pianist Jerry Peters to chorus-backed sextets with singer Marlena Shaw.
