Barry Harris's ease and dexterity translate beautifully from blues to ballads, from bebop to hard bop. Early in his career he appeared with such giants as Dexter Gordon, Cannonball Adderley, and Lee Morgan before recording for Riverside and Prestige. On this spirited 1969 trio date, Harris explores such jazz classics as Coleman Hawkins' "Bean and the Boys" and Charlie Parker's "Ah-Leu-Cha" along with the seductive, undulating blues "Sun Dance" and the timeless ballad "These Foolish Things." "There's much that is attractive about this set because even among the expected bop tunes like 'Dexterity' and 'Ah-Leu-Cha,' we get such notable Harris originals as 'You Sweet and Fancy Lady' (one of his best-known pieces), 'Just Open Your Heart,' and the Latin-tinged 'Sun Dance.' Ron Carter and drummer Leroy Williams form a well-oiled team with ample support and choice solo spots of their own. Although Harris continues to be a strong and committed performer, his Prestige period still holds special treasures."—All About Jazz
