Pero Ya from 1980 features Poncho Sanchez on congas and covers Gerry Mulligan's "This Couldn't Be the Real Thing," Johnny Mandel's "Close Enough for Love," "Bye, Bye, Blues," and "This Is Always," while 1981's lyrical and melodic The Shining Sea features Hank Jones on piano and Scott Hamilton on tenor sax in joyful renditions of "Emily," "A Time for Love," "Don't Look Back," and the theme from M*A*S*H.
