Description
|
|
|
|
This piney woods film noir from 1948 stars Richard Widmark as Jefty Robbins, owner of a lounge and bowling alley near the Canadian border that is managed by his playboy buddy Pete Morgan (Cornel Wilde) and cashier Susie Smith (Celeste Holm). After Jefty returns from Chicago with tough-talking chanteuse Lily Stevens (Ida Lupino), Pete is wary of hiring another of "Jefty's girls" until she proves her worth with a sultry rendition of "One for My Baby (And One for the Road)." But when Jefty learns that Lily is also seeing Pete on the side, he begins a psychotic game of torture and brutality against his former best friend and the conniving Lily.
