Nominated for three Oscars, added to the roster of preserved films in the United States Library of Congress's National Film Registry, and ranked 59th on the American Film Institute's 1998 list of 100 greatest movies, Rebel Without a Cause (1955) is one of only three movies James Dean starred in, and the one that became his signature performance. Dean plays teenager Jim Stark, whose loneliness, frustration, and anger mirrored those of postwar teens. Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo contribute Oscar-nominated performances as Stark's girlfriend and a troubled boy he befriends.
