The classic anti-establishment story of one man asserting his individuality against a conformist society, director Milos Forman's 1975 adaptation of Ken Kesey's bestselling novel was the first film since It Happened One Night, in 1931, to sweep all five major categories at the Academy Awards (Best Picture, Direction, Screenplay, Actor, Actress). Lawrence Hauben and Bo Goldman's script shrewdly focuses on the battle of wills between rebellious inmate Randle P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) and the soft-spoken Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher). Just as memorable were the performances of an ensemble cast that included Brad Dourif (Oscar-nominated), Danny DeVito, Will Sampson, and Christopher Lloyd in his film debut.
