Description

|
Released in 2004, Sun Zhou's award-winning exploration of the female heart and mind stars China's most acclaimed actress, Gong Li, as the title character, a beautiful artisan in search of the ideal soul mate. The first candidate is Chen Ching (Tony Leung Ka-Fai), a painfully shy poet who finds in Zhou the ultimate muse. His rival is the handsome, affable veterinarian Zhang Qiang (Sun Honglei), who is also hopelessly obsessed with Zhou, but in a less spiritual, more physical way. As Zhou shuttles between lovers, her long train rides provide director Sun Zhou with numerous opportunities to capture the beauty of both rural China and the incomparable Gong Li.
