Description
|

|
|
This 2003 film, directed by Christopher Hampton (nominated for a Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival), injects some magical realism into its examination of Argentina's "Dirty War," in which thousands of citizens who spoke out against the nation's military dictatorship "disappeared" between 1976 and 1983. Antonio Banderas stars as Carlos Rueda, the director of a Buenos Aires children's theater. When his wife, Cecilia (Emma Thompson) disappears after writing a controversial article, he discovers that he has the power to look into the faces of those seeking the missing and see the fate of the people they love. But no matter how desperately he searches for his own wife, he always finds himself one step behind her.
