|
|
Barbara Stanwyck delivers a "rafter-rattling portrayal of a homicidal housewife" (NYTimes) in this surprisingly modern thriller from 1957. Advice columnist Kathy Ferguson (Stanwyck) abandons her successful career when she marries homicide detective Bill Doyle (Sterling Hayden). Frustrated by his lack of ambition and the banality of life in the suburbs, Kathy transfers her thwarted ambition to her husband's career, scheming to push Bill up the ladder by any means necessary. Raymond Burr has a juicy role as Bill's superior, Inspector Pope, who gets away with cheating on his wife (Fay Wray) and betraying Bill, but faces the fight of his life when he double-crosses Kathy.
