Description
The venerable Dirty Dozen Brass Band are joined by Dr. John on the Rolling Stones' "It's All Over Now"; the Dukes of Dixieland and the Preservation Hall Hot 4 collaborate on "Dinah"; Troy ("Trombone Shorty") Andrews joins his brother James on a rousing "Bourbon Street Parade"; and Leon ("Kid Chocolate") Brown sings emotive lead vocal with Bob French's Original Tuxedo Jazz Band on on the classic "St. James Infirmary" blues.

"Brass musicians of all sorts have long been at the center of the fabled Crescent City's cherished local traditions—second lines, jazz funerals, civic events and, of course, countless Mardi Gras parades. The thrillingly unique, march-and-dance rhythms they specialize in have not only influenced a host of other New Orleans musical styles, from rhythm and blues and soul to jazz and funk, but still flourish to this day as the sagacious selections on this compilation reveal. In addition to representative efforts from a 'who's who' of contemporary New Orleans musicians and bands … this enhanced CD also includes a video for the post-Katrina 'Do They Play Jazz in Heaven?' … along with one track especially recorded for the project as diminutive singer John Boutté soars vocally on the 19th-century spiritual 'I'll Fly Away.'… An eye-opening collection that demonstrates that, in spite of all its recent tragedies and travails, the Big Easy continues to be one of the world's most vibrant musical centers."—Sing Out!
