From 1825 to 1860, Paul Letarouilly published hundreds of meticulously prepared drawings of the 16th- and 17th-century architecture of Rome in a massive three-volume undertaking, Edifices de Rome Moderne. Along with the posthumously published Le Vatican et la Basilique de Saint Pierre, Letarouilly's work became an architectural reference that influenced building in cities across post-Napoleonic Europe. John Barrington Bayley, a classical architect of the 20th century, was preparing the text for this popular introduction to Letarouilly's work until his own death in 1981. Completed by Classical America, it reproduces 101 of Letarouilly's plates, with 64 additional black and white figures.
