After playing air guitar in his underwear in this 1983 film, Tom Cruise snagged a Golden Globe nomination and went on to box office superstardom. Also making a big impression was costar Rebecca De Mornay in her film debut as a liberated call girl who helps crafty high schooler Joel Goodsen (Cruise) turn his affluent Chicago home into a lucrative bordello while his parents are on vacation. Writer-director Paul Brickman's astute satire of crass materialism earned him a Writers Guild nomination for his original screenplay and set a new standard for adolescent male fantasies.
