Description

|
|
A disgraced officer (Lee Marvin) gets a chance at personal and professional redemption by leading a squad of army rejects, misfits, killers, prisoners, and psychopaths on a suicide mission behind German lines in The Dirty Dozen. The 1967 film won an Academy Award for Best Sound Effects and was nominated for three others, including the only acting nomination ever received by John Cassavetes. (He later earned two others for Best Direction and Screenplay.) A tongue-in-cheek variation, Kelly's Heroes, was released three years later starring Clint Eastwood as a GI who stumbles upon top-secret information about a fortune in Nazi-confiscated bullion, then leads a team of misfits behind enemy lines to steal it.
