This influential sci-fi film from 1956—a pop adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest—was a model for Star Trek, and among its Oscar-nominated special effects was the film debut of Robby the Robot. Walter Pidgeon stars as the Prospero figure, presiding over a paradisiacal world with his daughter and their servile droid. But when a spaceship lands on the planet, an invisible, a sinister force threatens to destroy them all. This 50th Anniversary Two-Disc Special Edition includes deleted scenes, "lost footage" of special effects tests, documentaries on the influence of 1950s sci-fi movies and the making of Robby the Robot, an episode of The Thin Man TV series featuring the robot, plus the 1957 movie follow-up The Invisible Boy.
