Errol Flynn makes an inspiring wartime hero in these five WWII movies, all made at Warner Bros. In the Oscar-nominated (Best Special Effects) Desperate Journey (1942), he leads a crew of Allied airmen shot down over Germany back to safety in England. Flynn rallies a once-peaceful village of Norwegians against Nazi occupiers in Edge of Darkness (1943). From the same year comes Northern Pursuit, in which he infiltrates a cadre of Nazi saboteurs in Canada. In Uncertain Glory (1944), Flynn plays a condemned French prisoner who trades the guillotine for a firing squad by posing as a resistance leader. And Objective, Burma! (1945), nominated for three Oscars, finds Flynn stranded in the jungle.
