During his lifetime Saint-Gaudens both contributed to exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and served as an advisor to its staff. Today the museum owns 45 of the sculptor's works, ranging from delicate cameos and medals to innovative bas-reliefs, statuettes, and portrait busts of Civil War heroes.
