This beautifully printed 1991 catalog from the Metropolitan Museum of Art documents the outstanding collection of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean lacquered works donated by Florence and Herbert Irving. Among the 178 pieces here are a red lacquer table with gold painting and mother-of-pearl inlay from the Ryukyu Islands; a Korean clothing box inlaid with dragons in mother-of-pearl, tortoiseshell, and sharkskin; an elegantly simple rice server in black lacquer with realistic gold fruits from the early Edo period; and a carved and polychromed circular box from China's Ming period.
