The word "artist" is often debased in our linguistic currency by contest-show wannabes and the like, but Cassandra Wilson is an Artist, Exhibit A. One mark of that is how her work is never stagnant: although instantly recognizable, it is ever-evolving. Wilson won a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Performance in 1996 for New Moon Daughter and another for Best Jazz Vocal Album for 2009's Loverly. She also won the Down Beat Critic's Poll award from 1996–2006, and again from 2008–2011. She's as likely to cast her spell on a song by Robert Johnson as on one by Neil Young, the Beatles, or Miles Davis. In rapturous dialogue with jazz guitarist Fabrizio Sotti, Wilson sings "Red Guitar," "O Sole Mio," "Deep Blue," "Passion," "When Will I See You Again?" "Letting You Go," "Olomuroro," and more. The group includes Mino Cinelu on percussion, accordionist Julien Labro, Italian bass player Nicola Sorato, and African master percussionist Lekan Babalola. "A singer blessed with an unmistakable timbre and attack who has expanded the playing field."—Gary Giddins "One of the greatest gifts we can receive as human beings is the opportunity to walk in someone else's shoes and witness the world through someone else's eyes. Another Country takes us on a journey filled with experiences that open our hearts and minds to the promise of many worlds with infinite possibilities."—Cassandra Wilson
