A substantive monograph of Catherine Opie's photography, produced to accompany a mid-career retrospective at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan, this large and beautifully produced book gathers all of the artist's key projects through 2007. Representative works from all of Opie's series—among them Freeways, Domestic, Mini-malls, Surfers, Icehouses, and In and Around Home, as well as her subtle but potent portraits of people from the queer communities of Los Angeles and San Francisco—are reproduced in 237 duotone and color plates, including images that were not displayed in the exhibition. Curator Jennifer Blessing surveys Opie's artistic career and its historical contexts, and UCLA art department chair Russell Ferguson conducts a series of interviews with the artist.
