In 1935 Allen Lane stood on a platform at Exeter railway station, looking for a good book for the journey to London. His disappointment with the poor choice of paperbacks on offer led him to found Penguin Books under the principle that "good design is no more expensive than bad," and Penguin's distinctive paperback covers soon became familiar as a mark of quality. Presented in a handsome, book-shaped keepsake box, this set of postcards beautifully reproduces 100 classic Penguin covers, from their original design of three bold horizontal stripes through various stylish and iconic cover designs of the 1940s, 50s, and 60s.
