|
Director George Roy Hill brings a delicate touch to this 1979 film about two 13-year-olds in Paris whose genius IQs are no match for the innocent spell of first love. Diane Lane made her film debut as a bright American girl with an overly protective mother (Sally Kellerman). Thelonious Bernard plays the streetwise Parisian boy who is obsessed with movies. With the help of an old con artist (Laurence Olivier), they run off to Venice, where they believe a kiss under the Bridge of Sighs will make their love last forever. Allan Burns' sensitive screenplay received an Academy Award nomination, and Georges Delerue's romantic music won the Oscar for Best Score.
