Sergio Leone's epic gangster saga and final film was first released in 1984 in a drastically edited version. It is presented here in its original form with nearly 1½ hours of deleted footage restored. Told in flashback, the film chronicles the unraveling of a wary criminal partnership between two Jewish-immigrant gangsters (Robert De Niro and James Woods). Both Leone's direction and Ennio Morricone's melancholic musical score received Golden Globe nominations. This two-disc Special Edition includes commentary from film critic Richard Schickel and documentaries on the making of the film and Leone's career.
