|
In 1953, Senator Joseph McCarthy exploits the new medium of TV with fear, falsehoods, and belligerence to become arguably the most powerful man in the nation. Newsman Edward R. Murrow (David Strathairn), who's had his fill of McCarthy's tactics, uses the new medium to fight back. This pivotal clash of two titans is the focus of this 2005 film that was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor, and won various film festival and other awards around the world. Murrow, the principled "face of television," maps his strategy with his producer and confidant, Fred Friendly (George Clooney). McCarthy is played by himself through clever editing of archival footage.
