Although Orson Welles' timeless masterwork was ranked Number One in the American Film Institute's 1998 list of Best American movies, the 1941 film won just a single Oscar, for Welles' and Herman Mankiewicz original screenplay, which was based on the life newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. This two-disc Special Edition also includes the two-hour documentary The Battle Over Citizen Kane, an examination of the power struggle between Orson Welles and William Randolph Hearst, as well as commentary from Roger Ebert and Welles biographer and director Peter Bogdanovich, plus storyboards, rare photos, alternate ad campaigns, and studio correspondence.
