Warner Bros. assembled an all-star cast for this 1965 cinematic re-creation of the Nazi's unexpected last-ditch counteroffensive to split Allied forces in the densely forested Ardennes during the bitter winter of 1944–45. Henry Fonda plays an officer who predicts the coming assault, while Dana Andrews and Robert Ryan are the military brass who ignore his warnings. Robert Shaw is particularly effective as the German commander who leads the tank assault. And among the rank and file, Telly Savalas earned a Golden Globe nomination as a black market wheeler-dealer who falls in love with a local Walloon, as did composer Benjamin Frankel for his stirring, martial score.
