Romance is in the air when Chris Botti picks up his horn. Like Chet Baker, another brilliant trumpet heartthrob, melody has always been at the heart of Botti's music. Along with a cadre of equally gifted collaborators, he brings his lush timbre to the long, lyrical phrases of a familiar ballads like "Summertime," "Over the Rainbow," and "What a Wonderful World"; to an orchestral version of Chopin's Prelude No. 20; to an intimate duet with the subtle guitar of Leonardo Amuedo ("You Are Not Alone"); and to a "Tango Suite" composed with jazz great Herbie Hancock; to intoxicating Latin music by Piazzolla, Rodrigo and Ivan Lins. As Lorenz Hart wrote, "each day is Valentine's Day"—or at least when Botti's on the playlist.
