Description

|
For 25 years the principal trumpet of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Charles Schlueter had a big-toned yet versatile sound that was the opposite of brassy. Recorded at Thompson Chapel, Williamstown, Massachusetts, this contemporary music program includes Sonate by Jean Hubeau, the romantic and lyrical Chamber Music VII: Ceremonies and Chamber Music VIII: Sonata by Robert Suderburg (commissioned by the International Trumpet Guild), and Sonate by Paul Hindemith. "Jean Hubeau, the director of the Versailles Conservatoire, contributes a duo sonata, for trumpet and piano, that explores well the difficult medium. It benefits, of course, from its good performance; but it is in any case agreeable music in its own right."—Gramophone
