|
While investigating a suspected liaison between her headstrong teenage daughter Salma (Hend El Fahem) and a cabaret musician, young widow Lilia (Hiam Abbass) is drawn into the exotic netherworld of Rubenesque belly dancers and nocturnal pleasure-seekers. Lilia strikes up a friendship with one of the dancers and soon takes the stage herself, quickly become a favorite of both cabaret patrons and the club's hot-blooded drummer. Tunisian filmmaker and former belly dancer Raja Amari won the New Director's Showcase Award at the Seattle Film Festival for this 2002 film debut. In Arabic and French with English subtitles.
