Description

|
|
An unemployed movie buff, pretending to be the internationally acclaimed filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf, ingratiates himself with an affluent Iranian family and seeks to cast their adult son in his next film. The family is skeptical and calls a journalist who brings a policeman to arrest the imposter. Having read an account of the case, Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, a close friend of Makhmalbaf, decides to film a re-creation of the incident, including the subsequent trial before religious magistrates. Kiarostami's 1990 movie, a film festival winner at Montreal and Istanbul, provocatively blends fiction and documentary, "a masterpiece of ironic reflexivity," according to The New Yorker. In Farsi with English subtitles.
