Description
|

|
|
Xiao-Kang lives in a Taipei apartment with his parents. They rarely speak to each other and lead distant, separate lives. His mother works as an elevator attendant and harbors sexual urges for her son; his retired father frequents the city's gay saunas; and Xiao-Kang just drifts through life, occasionally taking work as a movie extra. While playing a floating corpse in a film, Xiao-Kang develops a terrible pain in his neck. An endless stream of healers can offer no relief, as the pain begins to drive him mad. Ming-Liang Tsai's challenging, contemplative film, released in 1997, won Grand Jury prizes at film festivals in Berlin, Chicago, and Singapore. In Mandarin with English subtitles.
