|
A peaceful community is rocked by the horrific discovery of a murdered schoolgirl dangling over the ledge of a building. The police, anxious to finger someone for the crime, unjustly convict the mentally challenged son (Bin Won) of a downtrodden acupuncturist (Hye-Ja Kim). Fed up with incompetent officials, the mother conducts her own investigation, doing whatever it takes to clear her son's name. Filmmaker Joon-Ho Bong's unsettling tale of maternal love—marked by moments of shocking violence, dark slapstick humor, and moving familial drama—won a host of critical and film festival awards and was named the official South Korean submission for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2010 Oscars.
