A journey along the Great Wall in the present and through the past, this landscape-format album presents an extraordinary portrait of the world's most famous man-made structure. William Lindesay spent three years traveling more than 20,000 miles across North China, carrying his cameras, a tripod, and a file of vintage photographs (the earliest dating from 1871), looking for the locations from which those earlier photographers captured their images of the Great Wall. His images in many cases match the previous perspectives exactly, allowing side-by-side comparisons that reveal many changes in the supposedly timeless structure.
