|
The music and guitars of the great songwriters Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfá blend beautifully with the singing saxophone of Stan Getz on this 1963 release, which also features Maria Toledo on several vocals. It's bossa nova from the source, with mellow, slow-groove gems like "So Danco Samba," "How Insensitive," "Samba de Duas Notas," "Ebony Samba," "Un Abraco No Getz," "Menino Flor," and "O Morro Nao Tem Vez." "Bonfa was a well-known player in Brazil in the mid '40s. He moved to the United States in 1957, and North American audiences heard him with Mary Martin. But it was his sound track for the film 'Black Orpheus' (1959) and especially the theme song 'Manha de Carnaval' ('Morning of Carnival") that put Bonfa and Brazilian music on the world map to stay."—Boston Globe
