Description
Familiar from childhood with the folk music of his Bohemian homeland but also influenced by Gregorian chant, Franišek Fiala combines ancient styles with European modernism. This results in a personal musical language that fosters invention in his chamber music and edifying moments in his sacred works, yet always affirms the great traditions of his musical heritage. In this he resembles other contemporary composers such as Arvo Pärt and Krystof Penderetzki. Works include the Sonata da chiesa for cello and piano, Epigrams for string quartet, Dialogue for flute and vibraphone, Mass in Gregorian Mode, Pater noster for a cappella chamber choir, Salve regina for chamber choir, flute, and vibraphone, and more.
