Schuricht's warm, rhapsodic, and flowing renditions of both of these symphonies took place in 1953 and 1941, respectively. Strauss had died just two months previously, so the recording with the La Scala orchestra of his musical reflections on the everyday pleasures of family life was a lovely tribute.
"Carl Schuricht was another maestro whose best performances suggested an active hotline to the heart of a piece, with no messing or lingering en route, just forceful, unadorned reportage."—Gramophone
