This 1952 account of the Four Sacred Pieces (Ave Maria, Stabat Mater, Laudi alla Vergine Maria, Te Deum) was a live performance, and Gramophone called it "arresting." It is coupled with Mozart's famously blithe flute and harp concerto of 1778—one of only two true double concertos he wrote, and his only piece featuring the harp. "The singing here matches that on the famous Giulini and Kegel versions, and the recording certainly doesn't sound its age. Again, Fricsay's speeds always seem the right ones, and his control of line and colour is faultless…. All the visionary quality of these late examples of Verdi's genius is fully expressed…. I doubt if circumstances today would permit of such a dedicated and loving interpretation on all sides…. Mightily competitive in spite of the mono sound, which is, nevertheless, spacious and full of atmosphere."—Gramophone
