Description

|
Johann Vesque von Püttlingen (pseudonym Johann Hoven) was an Austrian composer who befriended Mendelssohn, Liszt, and Schubert, holding the latter as his ideal. Beginning in 1828, he began publishing his own contributions to the lyric vocal repertoire, including more than 330 lieder and 10 operas. "To be sure, we see and hear echoes of Schubert and Schumann, but only echoes; Püttlingen is his own musical self," writes the Journal of Singing of these imaginative settings of poems by Heinrich Heine.
