This gritty 1972 adaptation of Joseph Wambaugh's groundbreaking first novel was one of the first films to deglamorize the cop movie genre with gallows humor and shocking violence. George C. Scott stars as 20-year veteran Andy Kilvinski who teaches new night-shift partner Roy Fehler (Stacy Keach) how to survive on some of LA's meanest streets. The film launched the career of Erik Estrada as a former gang-banger turned cop, and features a Shaft-like Quincy Jones score. Another of Sony's series of Martini Movies, the DVD comes with two shorts, "How to Pull Off a Heist" and "How to Hold Your Liquor," as well as a recipe for a Mounted Cop Martini.
