|
This 2000 adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's Jazz Age classic was handsomely shot in Montreal and includes a good deal of the narration Fitzgerald wrote for Nick Carraway (Paul Rudd). Returning from the battlefields of World War I, an impoverished young soldier (Toby Stephens) learns that the love of his life (Mira Sorvino) has married into a wealthy family and moved to Long Island's fabled Gold Coast. Obsessed with rekindling their romance, he reinvents himself as the mysteriously prosperous Jay Gatsby, throws scandalously lavish parties at his glittering mansion, and waits for his chance.
