John Lennon came to New York in 1971, seeking the freedom to be himself—rather than Beatle John—and to avoid the overwhelming public scorn he and Yoko Ono experienced while living in London. This Emmy and Peabody Award–winning film documents his time in the Big Apple where—except for his infamous "lost weekend" in Los Angeles, recording Mind Games in 1973—he spent the last nine years of his life. Included are never-before-released in-studio recordings, concert film only recently transferred to high-definition video, a trove of Lennon/Ono compositions (some in versions previously unheard), and interviews with those closest to Lennon during this period of his life.
