Inspired by an ad lib comment in a television sketch in 1961, Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner's comedy routine about the oldest man in the world became an instant classic, whose wide-ranging influence is celebrated in the new PBS television special Excavating the 2000 Year Old Man. Brooks and Reiner made five albums together; on each of the first three the wizened wisecracker made an appearance, while the final two were all him, including The 2000 Year Old Man in the Year 2000, which won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Spoken Comedy Album. The pair even starred as cartoon versions of themselves in an animated television special in 1975. This new set (not to be confused with the "Complete 2000 Year Old Man" released 15 years ago, which only had the first four albums) contains all five comedy albums on three audio CDs, while the enclosed DVD contains the animated special, clips from The Ed Sullivan Show and The Hollywood Palace, and a new interview with Brooks and Reiner.
