In 1940, MGM's "The Milky Way" became the first animated short not produced by Disney to win an Academy Award. As the Disney studio began to focus more on feature-length animation, MGM, Warner Bros., and Hanna-Barbera came to dominate the category, winning 15 Oscars between 1940 and 1965. All 15 have been digitally restored on this DVD. The bounty includes seven Tom and Jerry toons; the film debuts of Sylvester and Tweety (the first Warner Bros. short to win an Oscar), Pepé Le Pew, and Speedy Gonzalez; and a classic Bugs Bunny short ("Knighty-Knight Bugs"). The DVD also contains expert commentary on five cartoons and a music-only audio track on two of the shorts.
