|

|
|
This twin bill of films from Danish filmmaker Bille August features the acclaimed international hit Twist and Shout (1984), a hard-eged, sexually frank coming-of-age story in which four teenagers find love and heartbreak during the height of Beatlemania in 1963 Denmark. Confronted by the hypocrisies of the adult world, the teens find their loyalty to each other tested by the traumas and disillusions of young adulthood. Also included is August's 1983 prequel, Zappa, in which the same group of boys, at an earlier age, sort through issues of economic class, bullying, and dysfunctional parents. In Danish with English subtitles.
