Boy genius Irving Thalberg personally wooed the Marx Brothers to MGM from Paramount and supervised the first film of this bargain-priced set, A Day at the Races (1937), in which the brothers skewer the medical profession, bring home a racetrack winner, and peddle tootsie-frootsie ice cream. Lucille Ball and Ann Miller join the boys for Room Service (1938) as members of a cash-strapped theatrical troupe in search of a financial backer. At the Circus (1939) features a slinky Eve Arden as a shady acrobat, and A Night in Casablanca (1946) would be the brothers' last film together. Each film comes with a vintage short and classic cartoon.
